Shenzhen may be subtropical, but that isn’t stopping it from going full Frozen. Set to open in November 2025, Huafa Ice and Snow World is about to bring Arctic dreams to the Chinese tech capital, with zero chill when it comes to ambition.
Spanning over 430,000 square meters (which is bigger than a lot of airports), the mega-resort will house five professional ski slopes, two terrain parks, and a snow play zone for the kids—and the kids at heart. The steepest run will drop 83 meters, while the longest slope will stretch a respectable 450 meters. Word on the slopes? It’s already being eyed as a venue for international winter sports competitions.
Once just a sleepy fishing town, Shenzhen has transformed into one of the most futuristic cities in the world. Now it’s flexing its muscles in lifestyle and entertainment, not just AI and semiconductors. The move is also part of a bigger trend: China’s push to grow its winter sports industry post-2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. More proof that snow season in the Chinese mainland is going year-round, whether nature approves or not.
